More Breen Team success and a return to the Global Champions Tour in Valkenswaard

September 14, 00:00

The GCT has taken an enforced hiatus for much of 2020 due to Covid-19, however riders were once again able to ride under its banner as it returned for a one-off event at its traditional home, Stal Tops in Valkenswaard.

With Georgia and Jack in Peelbergen for Young Riders Academy selection, Shane was flying solo in the Netherlands - with Z7 Ascot, Compelling Z and Z7 Ipswich his equine team of choice.

The weekend kicked off with some beautiful rounds. Z7 Ascot had just the one down in Friday’s opening 2* 1.45 with Z7 Ipswich having the one down in the opening 5* 1.50/1.55. Compelling Z made his mark early, taking 3rd spot in the opening 5* 1.45.

Keeping that same form, he gave a foot perfect performance for another 3rd placing in Saturday’s 5* 1.50, while Ipswich had just the one down in the first round of the 5* 1.60 Grand Prix.

Sunday saw the return of the GCL team competitionwith Shane representing the New York Empire. It was a thrilling spectacle but a super quick clear from Z7 Ipswich sealed 3rd place for Shane and fellow countryman, Scott Brash.
